Crain’s New York: Shuttered Chelsea Prison to Become Housing as State Picks Developers

“The state is advancing plans to convert a long-shuttered Chelsea women’s prison into affordable housing, as Gov. Kathy Hochul on Monday announced the developers chosen to shepherd the transformation of the Bayview Correctional Facility.

The $108 million conversion of the vacant lockup at 550 West 20th St., facing the West Side Highway, will be undertaken by a joint venture of Manhattan-based Camber Property Group and the criminal justice-oriented nonprofit Osborne Association. The groups were selected through a request for proposals that the state launched last fall.”
