Intern Spotlight: Abigail Champagne

Joining us from Syracuse University School of Architecture, rising fifth-year B.Arch candidate Abigail Champagne spent the summer at COOKFOX, gaining experience across a range of project types and scales.

During her time at COOKFOX, Abigail contributed to two very different projects. On an interior architecture project, she developed interior elevations, enlarged plans, and 3D material studies. She also supported pro bono work on a large rural master planning project, beginning with research into the site’s geology, ecology, and cultural history before moving into the design process.

Beyond her project work, Abigail joined the studio’s Justice League in helping establish a garden and outdoor learning space for an elementary school in Brooklyn. The experience offered an opportunity to contribute to COOKFOX’s commitment to community engagement while collaborating with colleagues across the studio.

As she continues her studies and prepares for her professional career, Abigail looks forward to spending the fall studying abroad in South Korea and Japan before returning to Syracuse to begin her thesis on adaptive reuse. She hopes to carry forward the lessons of her summer at COOKFOX, particularly the importance of social equity, thoughtful collaboration, and understanding the history and context of a place before designing within it.
