Johana Monroy
Associate

Johana joined COOKFOX in 2018 and has contributed to a range of residential and commercial projects, including Betances Residence, 555 Greenwich Street, and 201 East 23rd Street. She is currently finalizing construction administration for the new 345 Hudson Street lobby and working on two film and production studios in the Brooklyn neighborhoods of Red Hook and Bushwick.
Before COOKFOX, Johana played a key role in the Center for Fiction project at BKSK Architects and worked at a small design studio focused on high-end residential projects in Manhattan and Brooklyn.
Passionate about education, Johana has taught first-year design studios at NYIT for over five years. Her love for teaching led her to pursue a master’s degree in architecture, reinforcing her commitment to fostering a more equitable profession and guiding the next generation of architects.
A Brooklyn native, she studied abroad in Rome during her undergraduate degree at Pratt and later earned her Master in Advanced Architecture at IaaC in Barcelona, where she explored the relationship of biology and architecture, focusing on bioplastics made from food waste. As a first-generation American of Salvadorian and Nicaraguan descent, Johana brings a unique perspective to her work, embracing architecture as a tool for representation, environmental responsibility, and cultural identity. Alongside the COOKFOX team, she continues to push the boundaries of forward-thinking, high-performance design while shaping a more dynamic and accessible future for the profession.
